Bolvar Kelevra's Origin
Bolvar Kelevra aka “Bolvar the Butcher” In a distant land, we find a young Bolvar, left to run as he escapes the grips of the armies of war. He remembers his father’s words to live to fight another day. To grow strong and defend the ones he loves and cares for. At the time, Bolvar’s father knew this much better than Bolvar himself did. He watches on as his father fights honorably to defend his small village from the invaders. He remembers the smell of war, of the gruesome slaying of the innocent. Death for the sake of death. He remembers seeing the monsters that slaughtered his mother, father, and friends as they were overcome by the beasts. Bolvar turns to run as he looks onward at his town left burning and in ruins. And then suddenly it all goes black. Bolvar awakes to find himself slung on the back of a horse with a man dressed in all black. The man feeling Bolvar wake tells him not to panic, that he is safe from the beasts for now. This man, known only as Ghost takes Bolvar in. He feeds him, rests his nerve, and takes him in as a son. He teaches Bolvar of honor and virtue, to see him grow into a man. We find Bolvar around the age of 21, skilled with a blade enough to defend himself but still a lot to learn. Bolvar and Ghost ride, traveling city to city in search of as much knowledge that they can get. Along the way they hear tales of magic, of a power that is bringing a great evil and war to the lands. One day, Bolvar and Ghost wake to the sound of the inn they are staying in being attacked. A slaughter has broken out and the two are left to try to escape the city fighting their way out. It is to no avail, for both Bolvar and Ghost are left on the ground, near the brink of death with just a few of the beasts remaining. And just as Bolvar sees the last of Ghosts life leave his body, Bolvar sees a man emerge from nowhere to fight and slaughter the last of the beasts. A man he would later come to find known as Beorn Bloodshield. This man saves Bolvar from the beasts, and as he is about to cross over to the other side too encumbered by his wounds, he hears the whispers of Beorn as he prays for the goddess, Hel, to grace Bolvar with the strength to recover and live to fight again. She grants him her favor and saves him from death. Bolvar gets taken in by Beorn, who informs him of his group “Hel’s Chosen” a band of misfits left to collect the souls of the corrupted and offer them to Hel as tribute. Bolvar, again, is taught a new way of the blade. This time more ruthless than the last. He is taught how to strike down his enemies quickly and sometimes brutally. He earns the title of Bolvar the Butcher during this time as his enemies learn to fear his blade. Time passes and Hel’s Chosen joins the Imperial Guard. The IG plans to use the Hel’s Chosen members to pursue and kill the corrupted magic that has been defiling the lands. Within the IG, Bolvar meets many different individuals who teach him how to fight with different weapons, and styles. He meets Fenris Kelevra, a captain of the Cutthroats who teaches him in the way of battlefield tactics, flow, and grace. Fenris becomes Bolvar’s main mentor, a man who graces bolvar with his family name Kelevra after their bond becomes that of brothers. Fenris sees a potential within Bolvar that even he himself cannot. He quickly becomes rumored to be the “chosen one.” In an effort to increase Bolvar’s fighting prowess, he meets more of the Imperial Guard. He meets Rhonin Nightthorne, an assassin who teaches him subtlety, efficiency, and finesse. Bolvar also meets Veridan Ironbear, a shaman who teaches him the accuracy and power of the javelin. But none impress him more than the commander of the Imperial Army himself, Asashi Sunfire. Bolvar sees the power that the IG has. He sees the breed of fighter that they create and strives to be a part of that. And thus, Bolvar strives to learn to be the best fighter that he can be. He learns his own style of fighting, becomes a lethal weapon with every weapon he can touch. But never is he as feared as when he wields his two clubs, imbued with the power of precision; or with his Ghost Glaives. Bolvar becomes a man to be feared, a man that can take on armies by himself as his friends look on in awe. Bolvar fights hard, with a power and speed unknown to anyone else. However, Bolvar holds a secret of his own. Bolvar dedicates himself early on to the power of Hel. He grows stronger with each soul he takes in her name, and in return for his offerings, Bolvar claims whatever magical essence or artifacts he can from them. Bolvar knows how weak the power of magic is within the realm, but continues to collect even the smallest of magical trinkets in order to one day harness the powers within them. Bolvar starts to become a fighter of great prowess within the IG. He finds himself rising through the ranks to start commanding the army if needed. And Bolvar plans to use this new Imperial army to slay the corrupted beasts and beings that have destroyed all those who were close to him. Bolvar strives to become a Hunter of souls, to reap the land of those foul beings of corrupt energies. And thus Bolvar in his greed, pride, and ideals starts down the path of corruption himself… to one day become the villain that would parallel that of any who fought against his ideals. He feels himself drawing deeper into the hands of these corrupted artifacts and will soon find himself becoming a lich.
